NOC Analyst (Network Operations Center)

As a NOC Analyst you will support the Afilias global registry network monitoring team to assess network and system performance on a real time basis. Additional responsibilities of this position are but not limited to; provide technical guidance to Afilias Technical Support Group, identify Network Performance impacting events, support root cause analysis efforts and provide daily detailed reports on registry performance to management. This position requires a critical eye for detail and the ability to associate network and registry activity to performance impacts. Candidate must have the ability to communicate "cause and affect" issues on technical level. Solid troubleshooting skills with an understanding of networking technologies and unix tools are critical to the success of this position. This position is supported by a team of technical and management resources dedicated to improving the operational performance of the registry.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify issues before they occur
  • Monitor and reactively investigate problems that arise
  • Research and deploy/develop tools
  • Provide 7x24x365 network and system support of the Afilias global registry
  • Prompt resolution and/or escalation of application/system problems including determining root cause through to appropriate solution
  • Act as liason between both technical and business departments
  • Communicate and/or Escalate to Team Leader or IT/Development when appropriate
  • Prepare management reports
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Daily work on a computer
  • Normal office environment
  • Required to work rotating shifts, frequently outside of normal working hours.
  • Carry a pager

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • At least 2-3 years equivalent experience in a 7x24x365 mission critical support environment
  • CCNA or similar network experience
  • Shell Scripting
  • DNS, Bind
  • SNMP
  • Solid understanding of the concept of domain name root registry
  • Experience with network diagnostic and monitoring equipment
  • Familiarity with internet based applications
  • Experience in administering a UNIX/Linux based mission critical application
  • Experience preferred in the following: AIX/UNIX/Linux; Net Saint, Big Brother or Nagios;Postgres database, SQL
  • University degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Assets: Java; XML; Perl; CCNP
