The main purpose of the position is to evaluate standards compliance and overall operational quality of the software the firm uses, and to determine whether software is ready for production release.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- be familiar with the firm's software
- work with software developers to plan test activities
- co-ordinate with operations staff for release of tested software
- write test scripts according to plans
- evaluate results of tests:
- conformance of software to relevant standards
- conformance of software to relevant functional specifications
- perform tests under simulated load
- identify gaps in current tests and construct test cases for such gaps
- perform some administration of test environment, in
- collaboration with operations staff
- respond to trouble tickets when test cases are needed
- write release notes for use by external users
- under direction, interact directly with external
- users or other companies' technical staff
- work daily on a personal computer
- sometimes work extended periods
- concentrate under conditions of high stress and short deadlines
- standard "open-plan" office environment
- occasionally required to work outside regular office hours
- occasionally required to work from remote locations (remote offices, home)
- infrequent travel to other cities
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- proficiency of PL/SQL
- knowledge in Perl proficiency
- familiarity with XML
- familiarity with shell scripting
- facility with Linux/UNIX environment
- degree, diploma, or certificate in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
- experience with PostgreSQL an asset
- good independent problem-solving skills
